Closing down ALT.com one profile at a time… by JohnBaku

I am really fortunate and humbled that I get emails from people who love FetLife and thank me for creating the site. Nothing feels better for someone like me who lives to grow software and communities.

This email in specific really made me feel good (they all do though):

Hey, just a note to say that I really enjoy this space. I actually deleted my profile on alt…. found enough good local people, and besides, alt is kind of… um …. creepy sometimes. Here I feel safer, I feel like the people are more on the level. I love the format… you can see what everyone is up to. I think it holds people to a slightly higher level of accountability. Being able to see threads of what others are writing has sparked some interesting conversations. It seems that there are alot of bloggers/writers on here, and that’s great. All in all I <3 fetlife. You are doing an amazing job, keep it up!!! –a.

LittleA even deleted her profile on ALT after joining FetLife. Wow… if that is not a compliment I do not know what is!

  1. It IS so much safer than alt (2 out of 3 Doms I met from alt were.. worrying) and attracts the right kind of people. None of my fetish-community friends have alt profiles anymore, and most of us are on fetlife. It promotes a healthy and sane attitude to BDSM, and it’s exactly this kind of site that can work to break down the stigma against the practice in the wider community. Keep up the amazing work :-) ps- one great feature would be to have the option of pics other than profile able to be viewed/commented on by friends only.

  2. I have to agree. On alt I met creepy people who were either posing and had no intention to meet - or turned out to be way too creepy to actually meet. Plus I got solicited by tons of people that didn’t need my need, profile desires or boundaries.

    Fetlife is a “clean-well lighted” dark place - I like its upfront honest and the control it gives me over my information and who is on my list.

    I closed out alt, and am glad to be on Fet life.
