The mySpace Generation Attacks FetLife by JohnBaku

Last night at 2 AM, I am sitting in my bed surfing FetLife when I come across a new users profile that has dancing bunnies, flashing lights and a fireplace in her about section. Notify kinkster ad delete about section. Today, I come across an about section 5 pages long with big honking pictures and music playing in it. Notify kinkster and I am about to delete the about section if I do not hear from him in the next hour.

I spent the last five hours starring at my screen and hacking away on a solution that prevents HTML from being embedded in the site. Solution is live.

I feel relieved and sad all at the same time about my solution. I want to let people feel like they can express themselves but at the same time I can not let the experience of FetLife be degraded for the other users. So for now, we are not letting people use HTML tags. Maybe in the future we will be able to create a sandbox of sorts that let’s people be creative in them while not degrading the quality of the site for everyone else but for now we have to just say no to HTML tags!

For those who are curious… I friggn hate mySpace! :-)

  1. I came here because Facebook was turning into such a huge pile of crap, seems Facebook people have nothing better to do than to see how much worthless crap they can add to their page.

  5. Just for the record, i do enjoy my MySpace profile - perfect for the vanilla world. But i also love the simplicity and “level playing field” that the consistent “look” that Fetlife has. i can get on here, check for messages, blog, read, upload, and not feel like i have to be constantly tweaking my profile just to keep up with…. It is kind of reflective of my kink life. Bare bones you get me as you see me no pretense.. Besides, i already waste too much time on the MS tweaking… it is nice to not have to do it here.
