A way for people to talk and get to know one another and share information and opinions beyond the very basic profile that the facebook model has. To me, right now, the site is just a bunch of profiles. If you don't know a lot of people there's not much way to get to know people unless you randomly start messaging them. Doing that... eh... it wastes a lot of time. Forums, message boards and the like allow you to "hear" what people have to say and get a basic idea of who they are. They allow us to communicate and open doors for further communication with those we "click" with. Just my thoughts, of course. :)</p> Forums of some sort.
